PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (September 27, 2006) – Senior midfielder/forward Megan Legendre (O’Fallon, Ill.) scored the lone goal of the game in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team to its fourth straight victory as the Ducks defeated St. Joseph’s College, 1-0, on Wednesday at Alfano Field in Patchogue, N.Y. With the win, Stevens improved to 5-2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Golden Eagles dropped to 3-5 (0-1 Skyline) with the loss.
With 23:33 elapsed in the contest, St. Joseph’s sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) could not control an initial shot by the Ducks, and Legendre took advantage as she drilled a right-footed side-volley to the back of the net. Legendre’s goal was her first of the season and the 15th of her career.
Senior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) picked up her fourth win of the year with two saves in the game. Midttveit also added to her own school record with her 34th career shutout, which was her fifth in nine games this season. Midttveit lowered her 2006 goals against average to 0.95 in the process.
Caden made three saves in net for St. Joseph’s, which was out-shot 5-2 in the game. Stevens owned a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
With its win over the Golden Eagles, Stevens has now won 42 straight games against conference opponents – a mark that dates all the way back to October 11, 2000. The Ducks currently own the sixth-longest win streak against conference opponents in NCAA Division III women’s soccer history.
Stevens returns to action on Saturday with an important road game against Union College at noon in Schenectady, N.Y.
