MONTCLAIR, N.J. (January 13, 2007) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s swimming teams were defeated by Montclair State University in its opening meet of 2007 on Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Pool in Montclair, N.J. Senior Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del.), and sophomore Emily Woo (Lodi, Calif.) and Nicole Ogrosso (Staten Island, N.Y.) each won two events on the women’s side, while freshman Kevin Kim (Ridgefield, N.J.) earned his first collegiate win for the men. The Red Hawks defeated the women 113-73, while the men suffered a 103-82 defeat.
Brabender picked up wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.71) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.27). Woo earned wins in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.20 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.84. Ogrosso brought home wins in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 11:54.63 and 5:49.64, respectively.
Kim earned his first collegiate win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.63. He also earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.75. Senior Vadim Gordin (Ocean Township, N.J.) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.53. The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay team compiled of Kim, Gordin, junior Mark DeLese (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Brent Cox (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned a first place finish with a time of 3:32.87.
The Stevens swimming teams are back in action on Wednesday when they host SUNY New Paltz at 4:30 p.m.
