Men’s Volleyball Blanks No. 15 New Paltz

Sophomore Joe Trinsey was the Ducks third-leading scorer as they defeated No. 15 SUNY New Paltz.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (January 24, 2007) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team defeated SUNY New Paltz in three games (30-26, 31-29, 30-19) on Wednesday night.  The Ducks improved to 8-3 and 2-0 in conference, while New Paltz fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the league with the loss.  Senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) led Stevens with a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs along with one ace and one block in three games.

Sophomore outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, N.Y.) was the Ducks’ second-leading scorer with 11 kills, three aces and one block.  Sophomore outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.) added 10 kills, one ace and two blocks for Stevens.  Junior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) was second on the team in digs with 10.  Senior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) led the Ducks with 41 assists in three games.

For New Paltz, senior middle hitter Joshua Spiro (Island Park, N.Y.) led the team with nine kills and two blocks.  Freshman middle hitter Christopher Holden (Stony Brook, N.Y.) chipped in with eight kills and four blocks.  Junior libero Pedro Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the team in digs with 11 and sophomore setter Matthew Weingarten (East Moriches, N.Y.) totaled 26 assists in three games.

Stevens is back in action on Saturday when it hosts the Stevens Invitational.  The Ducks will play Hunter College at 4 p.m. and Nazareth College at 6 p.m.  On Sunday, Stevens will play Baruch College at 10 a.m. and Eastern Mennonite University at noon.
