HUNTINGTON, Pa. (February 10, 2007) – Matt Fritz led No. 1 Juniata College with 27 kills and four digs as it defeated No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology in men’s volleyball action Saturday afternoon. The Ducks kept the first two games close (29-31, 31-29), but Juniata earned 30-17 and 30-19 victories in the final two games to earn their fifth victory of the season (5-2). With the loss, Stevens dropped to 13-5 overall for the year. Senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) led Stevens with 15 kills, eight digs, one ace and one block in four games.
Sophomore outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.) was second on the team with 12 kills, two aces and one block. Senior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) totaled eight kills and six blocks, while freshman Jonathan Landis (Sellersville, Pa.) added eight kills, one ace and two blocks. Senior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) led the team with 18 digs on the night. Setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) tallied 45 assists as the leading setter for Stevens.
Nate Ocasio contributed 16 kills and 10 digs for Juniata. Jeremy Banndt tallied 13 kills and five digs. Steve Yeager was the team leader with 11 digs.
Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Jersey City, N.J. to face New Jersey City University at 7 p.m.
