MAHWAH, N.J. (February 25, 2007) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team defeated Ramapo College and the Milwaukee School of Engineering in three games apiece on Sunday afternoon in Mahwah, N.J. Senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the Ducks with 27 kills on the day along with five blocks and five digs. With the win, Stevens improved to 18-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Against Ramapo, Stevens earned wins in three games 30-27, 30-23 and 30-21. Senior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) helped lead the Ducks with 12 kills and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, N.Y.) added 11 kills, two blocks and eight digs. Setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) contributed 50 assists. For Ramapo, junior opposite hitter Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, N.J.) led the team with 15 kills on the day. Sophomore middle blocker Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., N.J.) totaled nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter/libero Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, N.J.) led the team with seven digs.
MSOE played Stevens close, but the Ducks earned 30-26, 31-29 and 30-19 victories. Bochicchio added 12 kills, four aces, one block and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) added 10 digs and Schulte contributed 36 assits. Junior outside hitter Michael Mocchi (Wheeling, Ill.) led the Raiders with 21 kills, one ace and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Ronald Covert (Homewood, Ill.) totaled five kills, one ace, one block and eight digs. Freshman setter Christopher Brandt (Darien, Ill.) tallied 35 assits.
Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Annandale, N.Y. to face Bard College at 7 p.m.
