MADISON, N.J. (April 6, 2007) – Senior Adam Sandt (Allentown, Pa.) went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to earn a 5-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University Friday afternoon. With the win, the Ducks improved to 11-10 overall, while FDU dropped to 10-7.
Sophomore Joe Gunshor (Ridgefield, Conn.) also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior Mike Ivey (Budd Lake, N.J.) picked up the win on the mound for the Ducks allowing three hits in three innings of work. Sandt picked up his first save of the season giving up one hit in one inning.
Drew got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Stevens answered back in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. With one out in the inning, freshman Mark Rasulo (Irvington, N.Y.) singled to left center. After freshman Russ Grimes (South Brunswick, N.J.) flied out to right field for the second out of the inning, Gunshor singled to right center to advance Rasulo to third. Sandt tripled to right center to score Rasulo and Gunsor and tie the score at 2-2. Senior Ryan Birkenstock (Smithville, N.J) doubled on the next play to give the Ducks the lead for good.
Stevens added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth for the 5-2 victory.
Junior Larry Fabrizio (Bridgewater, N.J.) suffered the loss for the Devils allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work.
Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Center Valley, Pa. to play DeSales University at noon.
