Baseball Falls One Game Short in Quest for Conference Championship

Senior Andrew Tesoriero finished out his career with two hits in the Ducks final game of the season.

FISHKILL, N.Y. (May 6, 2007) After defeating top-seeded Manhattanville College 4-3 in today's first game, third-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology dropped the final game of the Skyline Conference Baseball Championship to Manhattanville, 18-5, on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y.  With the loss, the Ducks finished the season with a 20-20 mark.  With the win, Manhattanville (23-17) captured its first-ever Skyline Conference title.

Manhattanville got on the board first with three runs in the first frame.  However, Stevens answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score 3-3.

Manhattanville added two runs in the third and broke the game open in the fourth with 10 runs on eight hits and two Ducks' errors. 

Junior Thomas Verrengia ( Staten Island, N.Y. ) led the Valiants with five hits, three runs and two RBIs.  Freshman A.J. Triano ( Rye, N.Y. ) went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs.  Freshman Steven Arroyo-Falcon ( Bronx, N.Y. ) earned the win in five innings of work, giving up three runs on six hits. 

Stevens was led by senior Andrew Tesoriero and freshman Russ Grimes who had two hits apiece.  Junior Scott Picerno suffered the loss in three innings of work, giving up seven runs on 12 hits.
