Men's Volleyball Downs No. 7 Carthage in Final Day of the Warner Southern Invitational; Stevens Crowned Champions as it Sweeps Competition

AVON PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2008) – In the final day of the Warner Southern Invitational in Avon Park Fla., junior outside hitter Joe Trinsey finished the tournament in style as he once again led the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team past No. 7 Carthage College (30-26, 24-30, 30-27, 30-15) on Monday morning. Trinsey posted 13 kills and a pair of blocks as the Ducks (17-10) swept the competition and was crowed the champions of the invitational.

Junior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio notched 13 kills and a pair of blocks, while junior middle hitter Andrew Cranford tallied eight kills and four blocks. Freshmen setters Brandt Grobeis and Aaron Ostrovsky combined for 51 assists in the match. Grobeis had 20, while Ostrovsky dished out 31 assists. Ostrovsky also led in digs as he recorded 15 in the victory.

For Carthage (15-11), junior setter Joe Dougherty (New Lenox, Ill.) led in kills (16) for the Red Men and added a block. Sophomore setter Matt Figiel (Franklin Park, Ill.) totaled 41 assists, while freshman libero Tyler Berry (Saint Louis, Mo.) chipped in with 13 digs.

Stevens will return to action on March 26 when it closes out North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro division play as it plays SUNY Purchase in Purchase, N.Y. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
