HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 23, 2009) – Senior guard Dani Dudek posted her fifth career triple-double on 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to help the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team earn its sixth conference win of the year and sixth-straight victory as the Ducks defeat Rochester Institute of Technology 100-48 on Friday night in Hoboken, N.J. Junior forward Brittany Fuller notched a season-high 28 points and eight total rebounds as the Ducks move to 14-2 on the year and 7-1 in Empire 8 play. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 3-13 overall and 0-7 in league action.
The Ducks jumped out to a 25-8 lead with 13:35 left to play in the first half. During that span, junior guard Sarah Gehring totaled seven points on a three ball and a pair of field-goals. Fuller drilled a three and a jumper as Dudek notched a pair of two-point baskets. Sophomore forward Victoria Webber got in the action as she buried a three-point field-goal and two free-throws.
Stevens only increased its lead to 25 (41-16) with 5:44 remaining before intermission. During that stretch, Dudek and Fuller combined for nine points as both recorded two-point field-goals and Dudek added a free-throw. Gehring had five points, including a three ball that brought her career made three-point field-goals to 100. Stevens scored six more points to end the half and head to the locker room, having led 52-18. Each team received four points from its bench as Stevens scored 28 inside the paint. As a team, the Ducks shot a season-high 68.8 percent from the field in 20 minutes of action. Junior guard Danielle Furman (Coudersport, Pa.) led RIT at the half with six points as the Tigers shot 25.8 percent from the floor.
Fuller opened the second half with her second three ball of the night. Stevens tacked on 15 more points in a span of six plus minutes to increase its lead to 40 points (70-30). During that stretch, Fuller tallied three field-goals, while Armstrong hit a pair of baskets down in the paint. Dudek chipped in with a layup, which was followed up with a basket by freshman guard Dawn Garcia.
The Ducks brought their lead to 51 (90-39) in the final three minutes of play. Fuller and freshman forward Jillian Barrett combined for nine points over the course of six minutes of action. Garcia landed her first three of the game and knocked down a jumper as well. Furman had 12 second-half points as freshman guard Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, N.Y.) posted 13 points and three boards.
Overall, Stevens shot 60 percent from the floor and was 37.5 from downtown. The Ducks out-rebounded the Tigers 48-24. RIT was 30.5 percent from the field and 11.8 from behind the arc. Freshman forward Charley Scott-McGrail (Batavia, N.Y.) led the Tigers in rebounds with eight.
Four Ducks scored double figures in tonight's victory. Fuller led the way with her 28 points on 12 of 22 shooting. Dudek had 17 and was 8 of 9 from the floor. Gehring notched 15 points after she landed three three-point field-goals to bring her career total to 101. Finally, Armstrong had 10 points and was flawless from the field on five of five shooting. Both Fuller and Armstrong had eight total rebounds. Barrett chipped in with seven boards and seven points on the night.
Dudek's 10 assists surpassed the 600 career-assist mark as she stands at 607. She now joins Division I legends Nacy Liberman, Dawn Staley and Kelly Miller to have scored 1,000-plus points, pulled down 700-plus boards and dished out 600-plus assists. Dudek is the first-ever Division III basketball player to have accomplished this feat.
