ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 25, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season with a 5-0 loss to Ithaca College at the Empire 8 women's tennis championship match. The Bombers upped their season tally to 11-0 en route to their fifth consecutive conference crown, while the Ducks, who entered the championship riding a four-match win-streak finished with a 12-3 overall mark. With the win the Bombers received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships held each spring.

Ithaca seniors Devra Reiman (Maplewood, N.J.) and Sarah Hollis (Fairfield, Conn.) recorded the Bombers' first win of the afternoon with an 8-2 third-flight doubles triumph over Stevens junior Kendra Appleheimer and freshman Alexandra Handel. Ithaca's Cristina and Melissa Nunez (Morris Hills, N.J.) would extend the Bomber lead with an 8-3 top-flight doubles victory over Ducks junior Allyson Kingman and sophomore Nicole Portner before the Ithaca tandem of juniors Agata Kubik (Czestochowa, Poland) and Melanie Cohen (Ambler, Pa.) completed the Bombers' doubles sweep with a 9-8 (11-9) win over Brooke Catanzano and Morgan Scalzi.

Cohen would down Catanzano, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 4 singles action to stake Ithaca to a 4-0 advantage before Cristina Nunez defeated Kingman, 6-1, 6-1, to seal the dual-match victory.

Stevens returns to action in the New Year beginning March 16-18 with its spring trip to Orlando, Fla. The Ducks also face SUNY New Paltz on April 7 in New Paltz, N.Y.
