HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 18, 2009) – Senior middle Doug Reger notched a .727 hitting percentage to help lift the fourth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team past No. 14 SUNY New Paltz Wednesday night in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks came out fired up with their recollection of last Saturday's outcome still fresh in their mind when the Hawks defeated Stevens in five. Tonight the Ducks produced a team hitting percentage of .459 and tallied 14 team blocks in the 30-27, 30-18, 30-22 to improve to 13-3 on the year and 3-0 in NECVA metro play.
Senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey totaled 12 kills en route to a .417 hitting percentage on 24 swings with two errors. He led defensively with eight digs and three block assists. Senior middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.) and senior outside hitter John Dennan each landed eight kills as Dennan launched an and Cranford accumulated four blocks.
Reger had eight kills with no errors on 11 attempts and added a team-high seven blocks. Sophomore outside hitter SteFan PremDas chipped in offensively with eight kills and lofted five digs. Sophomore setter Brandt Grobeis dished out 37 assists in the win and finished with three kills and a pair of blocks.
The Hawks hit .108 on the match and was led by senior middle hitter Jake Moore (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), who landed 12 kills and lifted five digs. Senior outside hitter Ryan Huberty (Liverpool, N.Y.) notched nine kills and a pair of aces. Sophomore setter Andrew Cassius (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on 38 assists in the loss. The Hawks fall to 10-7 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.
Stevens will return to action on Friday in a league match against Polytechnic University scheduled for a 6 p.m. start in Brooklyn, N.Y
