Men's Volleyball Suffers Upset to Conference Rival Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (March 4, 2009) – Senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey tallied 19 kills and seven blocks as third-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team had its hands full with conference rival No. 6 Ramapo College Wednesday night in Mahwah, N.J. as the Ducks fell 30-27, 30-28, 31-29. Senior middle hitter Doug Reger notched a .583 hitting percentage on eight kills and landed five blocks as the Ducks drop to 16-4 on the year and 4-1 in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro division play.

As a team, Stevens produced a .206 attacking rating and totaled 10 team blocks. Trinsey finished with a .372 hitting percentage as senior middle hitter Andrew Cranford accumulated seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore setter Brandt Grobeis dished out 36 assists and lifted 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio also lofted 11 digs in the loss.

Senior outside hitter Shane Donohue (Freehold, N.J.) had 17 kills and five blocks in the win. Senior middle blocker Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, N.J.) landed 13 kills and a block, while senior setter Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, N.J.) connected on 48 assists. Sophomore libero Kevin McNerney (Bayonne, N.J.) led defensively with 16 digs.

With the win, Ramapo moves up to the top spot in the conference as the Ducks are currently sitting third behind New Jersey City University, which sports a 3-0 league ledger. Stevens will return to the court on Friday when the Ducks take on Division I foe, Princeton University at 6 p.m. in Princeton, N.J.
