Men's Tennis Blanks Elmira, 9-0 for Fifth Empire 8 Win

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 11, 2009) – Sophomore Ariz Zeevy teamed with sophomore Jason Ringstad to post an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team rebounded off of yesterdays league loss to Ithaca College with a commanding 9-0 sweep of Elmira College on Saturday afternoon in West Windsor, N.J. The match was moved indoors to the Mercer Country Park facility as Stevens started the day over having swept in doubles play. Sophomores Ryan Wilson and Jay Lee and senior Kobe Attias all posted flawless straight-set victories during singles play.

Stevens swept in order during doubles play. Zeevy and Ringstad started with an 8-1 won over junior Gabriel Cortes (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Eric Klinedinst (York, Pa.). At No. 2 doubles, the junior-senior combination of Piotr Rusinkiewicz and Attias rolled over sophomore Michael Leslie (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and junior Timothy Wagner (Cornith, N.Y.), 8-1. The tandem of freshman Gregory Klose and Lee upended juniors Matt Montgomery (Elmira, N.Y.) and Ryan Paterson (Brattleboto, Vt.), 8-3 at third doubles.

In singles play, Lee started things off with a flawless straight-set win (6-0, 6-0) at fourth singles over Leslie. Rusinkiewicz took care of Paterson at third singles (6-2, 6-1), while Ringstad cruised by Klinedinst at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. That was followed up by a pair of unblemished straight-set wins at sixth and fifth singles, as Attais and sophomore Ryan Wilson defeated Montgomery and junior Michael Dewitt (Queensbury, N.Y.), respectively. The match ended with Zeevy having recorded his 15th singles win of the season, a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Cortes.

Stevens will return to action on Wednesday when the Ducks host New York University at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. slatted for a 3:30 p.m. start.
