Women's Tennis Falls in Season Finale, 9-0 to TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team was shutdown, 9-0 by the talented College of New Jersey on Wednesday evening in Ewing, N.J. The Ducks, who have been dominant all year in doubles play, fell by the scores of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-0. Stevens then lost each of its singles matches in straight sets. The Ducks conclude the 2008-09 season with an overall mark of 12-6.

Juniors Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Tamra Wroblesky (Freehold, N.J.) defeated the sophomore-senior combination of Allyson Kingman and Whitney Bender at first doubles, 8-2. The tandem of senior Haley Kutner (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and freshman Felice Trinh (Linden, N.J.) overcame freshman Nicole Portner and sophomore Kendra Appleheimer at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Freshmen Morgan Scalzi and Mine Bese fell to seniors Lindsay Katzel (Boyds, Md.) and Chrissy Principe (Neptune, N.J.) at third doubles, 8-0.

Shtemberg overcame Bender, 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, while junior Stefanie Haar (Morganville, N.J.) dropped Kingman in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) at No. 2 singles. Freshman Christie Pollin (Mendham, N.J.) outlasted Portner at third singles (6-1, 6-3) as Kutner cruised by Bese at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-2. Appleheimer was defeated by Katzel at fifth singles (6-2, 6-3), while Wroblesky upended Scalzi, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
