Men's Swimming Cruises to 175.5-86.5 Win Over Rowan

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 16, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming to rolled to a 175.5-86.5 win over Rowan University on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Aquatic Center. The Ducks won 11 of the 14 events as they improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season. Freshman John Hu and freshman Alex Benham each won multiple individual events on the day with Hu earning a team-high three wins.

Stevens started strong and never looked back in winning the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman Greg Charriez, junior Evan Wilson, Hu, and junior Matthew Preedy combined to turn in a 1:40.28. Benham won the 1000-yard freestyle, carding a 10:03.21, and Wilson was second (10:09.30).

Charriez took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.11, and Preedy and Wilson were one-two in the in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.25, 1:01.40).

Hu and sophomore Matthew Smith placed first and second in the 200-yard butterfly with times of 1:54.95 and 1:59.68, and Hu came back to take the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke. He was followed in second by junior Dan Pecoraro and Charriez.

Wilson won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.43, and Behnham cruised in the 500-yard freestyle, touching at 4:47.48 to win the event. Freshman Daniel Munt placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (54.50) and Hu's third win of the day came in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.31). He was followed by Matthew Smith and Charriez (2:06.41, 2:07.98) in second and third.

Pecoraro, Derek Smith, Benham, and Preedy combined to touch at 3:17.79 in winning the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Stevens will return to competitive action with a dual-meet against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on January 29, 2010.
