NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (January 19, 2010) – Senior co-captain Brittany Fuller poured in a season-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds en route to her third double-double of the season, pacing a shorthanded Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team in a, 56-46, win over SUNY New Paltz. The Ducks, who dressed just seven players, moved to 9-6 on the year with a 6-2 league ledger, while the Hawks fell to 9-5 on the season.

Down one in the early going, Stevens sophomore guard Dawn Garcia hit a layup to put the Ducks ahead, 4-3, before a Fuller three and Sarah Gehring  jumper, after Kathleen Schuckers steal, capped off a 7-1 Stevens run.

New Paltz senior forward Carly Minehan (Albany, N.Y.) cut the lead to three with a jumper at 10:25, but Fuller responded by scoring nine of the game's next 12 points – on a pair of threes, a jumper, and a free-throw – to stake Stevens to a nine-point advantage.

Hawks' sophomore guard Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) then sparked a 6-0 New Paltz rally, scoring four-straight points before an Alexandra McCullough (Delmar, N.Y.) jumper sliced the Hawk deficit to three with five-minutes to go in the half.

But Stevens closed out the half strong, regrouping over the next three minutes, by sinking seven-of-eight free-throws, before a Victoria O'Connor bucket just shy of the two-minute mark gave the Ducks their first double-digit lead.

Holding onto an eight-point edge to begin the second half, Stevens continued to be the aggressor, taking a 14-point lead following a pair of Fuller and Garcia treys to start the half. Unfazed, New Paltz mounted a 15-2 run of its own over the next five and a half minutes to pull within one with just over 12-minutes remaining.

Fuller then gave the Ducks a little breathing room, hitting back-to-back baskets to kick-start a 6-2 Stevens spurt that made it 42-37.

New Paltz senior guard Nicole Sarcone (Staten Island, N.Y.) later found the range from long distance, cutting the margin to two, but O'Connor and Fuller combined to score the game's next seven points, capped off by Fuller's fifth triple of the evening, as Stevens took a 49-40 lead at 6:13.

Up seven at the three-minute mark, Garcia nailed her second three of the day before a Fuller layup with just 1:52 left in regulation increased the lead to 12, all but sealing the Ducks' ninth win of the season.

Fuller added a season-high five steals in the win, while Garcia, who matched a season-high with six rebounds, finished with 16 points on five-for-six shooting. O'Connor chipped in with eight points and seven boards, while Schuckers dished out a team-high five assists.

Sarcone and senior guard Maggie Farrell (Hillsdale, N.Y.) led all Hawks scorers with nine points apiece, while McCullough added seven points and three rebounds.

Stevens, which went 18-for-44 from the floor (40.9 percent), held New Paltz to just 16-for-56 shooting (28.6 percent) and 5-of-22 from behind the arc (22.7 percent.).

The Ducks will play host to Empire 8 rival Alfred University on Friday, January 22.
