ITHACA, N.Y. (October 9, 2010) – Sophomore forward Victor Daza notched the game-winner and freshman back Leonardo Casas scored in the 77th minute to help lift the No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Empire 8 rival Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field in Ithaca, N.Y. The win pushes the Ducks to 8-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Empire 8, while Ithaca falls to 2-6-3 (1-3-0 Empire 8). Stevens has yet to allow a single goal against in 2010.

Once again, the Ducks' defense was stingy, holding the opposition scoreless for a 13th-straight game dating back to November of 2010, and goalkeeper Zach Carr recorded the 48th shutout of his career,  making three saves.

Stevens outshot Ithaca 16-9 for the game and 10-3 in the second half. Ithaca ended the contest with a 4-3 edge in corners.

Daza tallied his fourth goal of the season and second game-winner in the 16th minute on an assist from senior midfielder Nolan Sandberg. Sandberg found Daza with a long ball and the sophomore ripped a shot from 16 yards out that found the back of the net.

The Ducks, who dominated possession and field position, put the game away with 13:57 remaining in the second half. Casas ripped a long shot from the left side that the Ithaca goalkeeper was able to get a hand on but the ball crossed the goal line and put Stevens on top, 2-0.

The Stevens defense has a scoreless streak of 1,236:19 and Carr is second in NCAA Division III history in consecutive time without a goal against.

Stevens will return to action on October 13 with a contest against long-time rival the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 8 p.m. All the action will be webcast live at www.Empire8.tv.
