ONEONTA, N.Y. (February 13, 2010) – Senior co-captain Brittany Fuller and junior forward Jillian Barrett each netted a game-high 11 points to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology to a decisive, 72-32, victory over Empire 8 rival Hartwick College at the Lambros Arena in Oneonta, N.Y. The second-place Ducks improved to 13-8 on the year with a 10-3 mark against conference opponents, while the Hawks fell to 6-16 overall with a 4-10 league ledger.

Garcia opened the game with a three from the left side and after a Hartwick turnover, the Ducks' sophomore guard hit a 15-footer thanks to a nice look from junior center Paige Armstrong. Stevens would force another turnover on the next Hawks' possession, leading to a Barrett layup that gave Stevens a 7-0 lead less than two minutes in.

Hartwick got on the board in its next possession but Barrett responded with her second hoop of the game to put the Ducks back up seven. Stevens took its first double-digit lead (16-6) of the first half after sophomore Kathleen Schuckers broke the press and found Fuller with a long pass for a layup. Fuller then drained a triple from the left side on the Ducks' next possession to put Stevens up 19-6 with 12:58 to play.

A Barrett three-point play pushed the lead to 15 (26-11), and after another Hartwick turnover, Barrett converted a short jumper to make it 28-11 Stevens with 8:25 to go in the opening half. Victoria O'Connor gave the Ducks their first 20-point advantage of the afternoon on a put-back with 5:57 remaining in the first, and the lead ballooned to 29 (48-19) after back-to-back-to-back threes from junior forward Cindy Hassler and senior guard Sarah Gehring, giving the Ducks a 29-point lead heading into the locker room.

Stevens connected on 19 of 46 field-goals in the first half – including a 6-for-10 showing from behind the arc – while surrendering just five Hartwick buckets. The Ducks also forced 15 Hawk turnovers while holding a 26-14 rebounding edge.

Stevens continued to apply the pressure in the second half, mounting a 13-2 run over the first 10 minutes of action to put Hartwick away. A stifling Ducks defense held the Hawks to just 13 points on 4-of-23 shooting in the second stanza, while forcing 11 Hartwick turnovers.

Barrett pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 11 points, while Armstrong added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Hassler rounded out the list of Ducks in double-figures with 10.

Stevens returns to action on Tuesday, February 16 when it plays host to Hunter College.
