HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 10, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team recently welcomed back a host of former Ducks for its annual Alumni Match. Led by Jeff Spahn (Epee '71), a “B” rated fencer and contender for the National Veteran's team, the Stevens alums edged their undergraduate counterparts, 45-35. Also in attendance were Peter LaChance (Saber '81), Bob Eng (Saber '73), Lowden Charles (Foil '09), and former head men's fencing coach Robert Wu (Foil '76).

Wu managed to defeat most of the field, only losing to freshman Anthony Worthington – an “A” rated foilist – 5-4. Spahn meanwhile, scored 17 points against varsity epeeists Ryan Megaro, Dan Burke, and Billy Dannhauser. The Ducks topped the alumni, 45-40, in sabre, despite head coach Stephen Kovacs best efforts.

“I think the people that attended our alumni match and dinner had a great time and hit it off very well with the team,” said Kovacs. “We're hoping the word will spread and this event can really grow in the future.”

Several Ducks, including sophomores Charles Steiner and Dzmitry Lamianski, will compete at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Drew University in Madison, N.J. on Saturday, March 13.
