HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 10, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team played William Paterson University to a scoreless draw on Friday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex in the Stevens College Cup. The Ducks dominated the second half of action but could not find the game-winner as they move to 2-0-1 on the young season. Stevens has yet to allow a goal in 2010 (293:16 of game time) and has kept the opposition off the board in its last six contests dating back to November 12, 2009.

William Paterson (2-1-1) dictated play in the game's first 45 minutes as the Ducks had trouble mounting any serious attack at the Pioneer defense and junior goalkeeper Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J.). Paterson went into the break with a 2-1 edge in corners and each squad took four shots.

In the second half, Stevens seemed to impose its will on the game and generated several strong chances at the goal. In 61st minute, sophomore Victor Daza headed a Zach Adler corner slightly right of the post.

Several moments later, senior Nolan Sandberg ripped a shot from two yards inside the box that missed just high, and with about 24 minutes to play, Adler sent a free kick from 23 yards away inches over the crossbar in a great bid for the game-winner. The Ducks controlled the ball and the tempo in the final 45, outshooting WPU 10-5.

In the two overtimes, both teams had a couple of solid chances but nothing came close to finding the back of the net for either side. Stevens ended with a 5-3 edge in corners and a 17-13 shot advantage. Collins was credited with three saves on the night, while Duck keeper Zach Carr, who pitched his 41st career shutout, made six stops, three in each half.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday night against North Carolina Wesleyan College at 8 p.m. in the finale of the Stevens College Cup. All the action will be webcast live at www.PennAtlantic.com. NC Wesleyan played Arcadia University in the first game of the afternoon on Friday and defeated the Knights, 4-0. Arcadia and Paterson will play at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
