HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 8, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team squashed Elmira College 9-0 at the Stevens Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. It is the sixth time this season the Ducks have won a head-to-head match 9-0, and their aggregate total is now 77-4 this year.  Saturday's victory sets up Sunday's high noon showdown with Ithaca for the Empire 8 regular season championship.

Elmira managed to win just one doubles game all afternoon, as freshman Jessica Bourque and sophomore Lisa Tessitore swept 8-0 at first doubles and senior Morgan Scalzi and freshman Danielle Stewart did the same at thirds. Seniors Nicole Portner and Mine Bese won their second doubles matchup by an 8-1 final.

Things were not much closer at singles, where Bourque (first singles) and Stewart (third) earned 6-0, 6-0 sweeps to clinch the match for Stevens. Bese rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles, while Tessitore, Portner and junior Alexandra Handel all won with relative ease as well.

The Ducks will take on Ithaca College on Sunday at 12 p.m. in both teams' final Empire 8 match of the regular season. Both the Ducks and Bombers are undefeated, setting up a de facto regular season championship game. Sunday is the team's Duck Country event, and sunglasses will be given away on the CPA Hill as the match starts at noon.
