Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 22, 2011) – Senior captain Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a double-double for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team on Tuesday night against Richard Stockton College, but the Ospreys prevailed by a count of 71-56 to move to 3-1 on the year. The Ducks fell to 2-2 with the loss.
Stockton led nearly wire-to-wire, though the Ducks were within striking distance the entire game, even holding a five-point lead halfway through the first half. Stevens did not have a defensive answer for LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin, N.J.), a six-footer who led all scorers with 22 points and cleaned up the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds. Aspen Price-Perry (Lindenwold, N.J.) was 3-for-3 from behind the arc for the Ospreys as well.
Barrett scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to earn her first double-double of the season. She scored 11 of her points from the free-throw line, where she was 11-of-12 for the night.
Sophomore Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) had a solid game for the Ducks in their home opener, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds. Senior Dawn Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was also in double figures with 12 points.
The Ducks will play again when they host Kean University on Sunday, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
