Rohan Keys Men's Volleyball Sweep Of Hilbert

BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 6, 2011) – Sophomore middle hitter Jon Rohan hit .412 with 11 kills and five digs as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team earned its first-ever win in the newly formed United Volleyball Conference (UVC), upending Hilbert College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 28-26), in Buffalo, N.Y. With the win the Ducks improved to 7-2 overall on the season with a 1-1 mark against conference opponents.

Stevens opened the match hitting .348 en route to a 25-13 first set victory before holding the Hawks to a paltry .056 attack percentage in a 25-16 second set win. The Ducks closed out the match with a hard-fought 28-26 triumph in the third, completing the sweep.

Senior co-captain Bryant DeFranco hit .444 with five kills, while seniors SteFan PremDas and Timothy Karl and sophomore Tom Hannum each added four kills. Senior Jonathan Landis added three kills, while fellow senior Brandt Grobeis dished out 31 assists.

Freshman outside hitter Adam Weaver (Stow, Ohio) tallied a match-high 15 kills and five assists, while senior setter RJ Sykora (Stow, Ohio) tallied six kills and 17 assists. Senior middle hitter Dan Wolfe (Rochester, N.Y.) finished with four kills and 15 helpers in the loss, while sophomore libero Gary Gawera (Eden, N.Y.) collected a team-high six digs.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, February 9 against Juniata College.
