Despite Zeevy, Ringstad Singles Wins Men's Tennis Falls To No. 2 Amherst

CLAREMONT, Calif. (March 14, 2011) – Seniors Arik Zeevy and Jason Ringstad picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team, slotted 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Northeast Region preseason poll, opened its annual Spring Break trip with a 7-2 loss to nationally-ranked No. 2 Amherst College in Claremont, Calif.

The Lord Jeffs' No. 1 doubles pairing of senior Sean Doerfler (Douglaston, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Reindel (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) got Amherst off to a fast start with an 8-5 triumph over Stevens' sophomores Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki.

Zeevy and Ringstad would drop an 8-4 decision at second doubles to junior Robby Sorrel (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and freshman Chris Dale (Austin, Texas) to put Stevens in an 0-2 hole, while Amherst junior Julian Camacho (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Hendrix (Surrey, United Kingdom) earned an 8-0 victory in the third slot to complete the doubles sweep.

Reindel headlined the Lord Jeffs' singles lineup, defeating Rosensteel 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), while Zeevy scored one of the Ducks two wins of the day at No. 2 singles, downing Camacho 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 11-9. Doerfler would hand Tasaki a 6-0, 6-2 loss at No. 3 singles, while Ringstad outlasted Sorrel 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 in the fourth spot.

Amherst closed out the match with a pair of wins, with Dale besting Stevens freshman Lopburi Sasinin 6-4, 6-1 at fifth singles, while Hendrix dropped senior Carlo Pardo 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth slot.

The Ducks will look to break back into the win column on Tuesday, March 15 against ITA West Region No. 12 Whittier College.
