Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season With Win Over Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. (March 2, 2011) – Ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Northeast Region poll, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened up its 2011 spring season with a hard-fought 5-4 win over ITA Atlantic South No. 15 Haverford College at the Alumni Field House in Haverford, Pa.

Sophomores Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki got the Ducks' off on the right foot, earning an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles over sophomores Kevin Caulfield (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Danny Himelstein (Media, Pa.).

Stevens' No. 2 doubles pairing of Arik Zeevy and Jason Ringstad (also scored an 8-5 decision over their Fords counterparts, while Haverford junior Will Garrett (New Market, Md.) and senior Hailiu Yang (Potomac, Md.) put the home squad on the board with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

Rosensteel headlined Stevens' singles lineup with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-6) win over Caulfield in the top slot, while Zeevy secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. Tasaki made it three at in a row at the top with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-6) win over freshman Andy Dougherty (Dover, Mass.) to seal the Ducks' first dual-match win of the year.

Stevens is back in action against No. 24 Massachusetts Institute of Technology – who eliminated the Ducks in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament – in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, March 5.
