Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season With Loss To ITA Northeast Region No. 8 Rochester

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 10, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 9-0 loss to the University of Rochester at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. With the loss, the Ducks fell to 11-4 overall on the season, while the Yellowjackets improved to 13-3 on the year. Stevens wraps up its season on Wednesday, April 13 against SUNY New Paltz.

Rochester's Alexandra Goodman (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Danielle Shreck (Lido Beach, N.Y.) got things started with an 8-0 sweep of Stevens Kendra Appleheimer and Lisa Tessitore at No. 2 doubles, before the Yellowjackets' Frances Tseung (Rowland Heights, Calif.) and Lia Weiner (Sarasota, Fla.) earned an 8-1 first doubles decision over the Ducks' Nicole Portner and Allyson Kingman. Rochester's Jamie Bow (St. Clare Shores, Mich.) and Janice Zhao (Rochester, N.Y.) closed out doubles action with an 8-3 win in the third slot.

Weiner headlined the Yellowjackts' singles lineup with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kingman at No. 1 singles, while Tseng defeated Portner 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Goodman upended Appleheimer 6-2, 6-2, at third singles, while Bow defeated Lisa Tessitore 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles. Shreck and Zhao wrapped up singles action with wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
