ALFRED, N.Y. (April 2, 2011) – Senior Brandon Faubert continued to impress, racking up eight points on five goals and three assists as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team, ranked sixth nationally in the latest USILA Coaches Poll, cruised past Empire 8 rival Alfred University 24-6 at Merrill Field in Alfred, N.Y. With the win, the undefeated Ducks improved to 10-0 on the season, while the Saxons fell to 7-2 on the year and 0-2 in league play.

After Alfred senior Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, N.Y.) staked the home side to an early 1-0 edge with an unassisted tally just 20 seconds after the opening whistle, Stevens responded with five unanswered over the rest of the frame, taking a four goal lead at the end of one.

Faubert got the Ducks' streak started, netting a goal just 48 seconds after Zoyhofski's opening score before putting another well placed shot into the back of the Alfred next just over two minutes later. The Ducks' Harry Dorne then extended the lead to two at 7:25 before consecutive Nicolas Philippi scores to close out the quarter gave Stevens a 5-1 edge.

Alfred opened up the second stanza with a goal from Jay Stearns (Corning, N.Y.), but the resilient Ducks again responded, this time scoring three-straight – all off of Faubert assists – to go up 8-2. Saxons' junior Jay Whyel (Markleysburg, Pa.) momentarily stalled the Stevens hot-streak with a goal at 5:12 mark of the second, but Stevens closed out the frame on a 5-0 run, capped off by a pair of Kevin Rose goals in the final seven seconds of the half, to take a 13-3 advantage into the intermission.

Stevens continued to build on its momentum coming out of the break, outscoring the Saxons 8-0 in the third period. Dorne got things started just 15 seconds into the frame, scoring on a Rose assist in a man-up situation, before senior co-captain Chris Laurita (South Brunswick, N.J.) got into the act, netting a goal with just over 12 and a half minutes left in the third.

Freshman Christian Saley made it 16-3 Ducks just 17 seconds after Laurita's tally, before consecutive Faubert and Rose scores in just over a minute of game action extended the Stevens cushion to 16. Saley kept things going with his second goal of the game just under the three-minute mark, before junior Matt Marks and Faubert closed out the quarter with markers in the final two minutes of the frame.

Senior midfielder Joey Simone capped off the Ducks' streak of 14-straight scores before three-consecutive Alfred goals put an end to Stevens' decisive run. Simone and freshman attack Connor Lynch closed out scoring with goals at 2:45 and 0:57, respectively.

Dorne, Laurita and Rose each finished with a hat-trick with the trio also combining for a pair of assists. Saley, Philippi and Simone each finished with a pair of scores, while Lynch, Marks, freshman Charlie Cronin (Northampton, Mass.) and junior Rich Dupras each got on the board with a goal.

Junior midfielder Michael Steinhauser went 11-for-18 from the 'X', leading the team in ground balls with five, while Marks caused a team-best three turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Eric Yando was again solid in net, surrendering just three goals in 45 minutes of action.

Stevens, which held a decisive 68-20 shot advantage, while going 22-for-23 on clears, returns to action on Wednesday, April 6 against Hartwick College.
