Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 27, 2012) – Though the Stevens Institute of Technology senior class had a productive day, the women's basketball team dropped a 54-38 game to Empire 8-leading Ithaca College on Friday evening. With the result, the Bombers remain undefeated in the conference (16-3, 8-0), while the Ducks drop to (7-11, 4-4).
Victoria Webber (Silver Spring, Md.), Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Dawn Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) – all members of the Class of 2012 – were among the leaders for the Ducks. Webber scored 15 points to lead the visitors, while Barrett pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Garcia was in double-digits as well, scoring 11 points.
Neither team shot particularly well, combining to make just 34 of 105 shots from the field. The Ducks held their own from the free throw line though, making 11 of 16.
Ithaca led 22-18 at the half, but Stevens maintained a four-point lead after Webber hit a couple of free throws with six minutes to go in the half. Ithaca would score nine of the last 10 points of the period, however, to hold the advantage at the break.
Though the Bombers never lost the lead, the Ducks stayed within striking distance for much of the contest. Ithaca went on a 10-0 run late in the game to finally pull away. Jessica Farley (South Dayton, N.Y.) led the Bombers with 18 points.
Stevens will have a chance to quickly shake the loss on Saturday, when the team travels to Utica College for a 2 p.m. game with the Pioneers.
