Sweep for Women’s Volleyball Over NYU-Poly

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 17, 2012) – For the second time this season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team earned a sweep over NYU-Poly to improve to 11-15 on the season. The Ducks have won four of their last five matches by straight sets.

Stevens earned the sweep, 25-13, 25-12, 25-17, and were led by 11 kills from senior opposite hitter Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.). Kowalska also added 10 digs to pick up her 12th double-double of the year. She hit .417 in the match and chipped in two assists and two blocks a piece.

Junior setter Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) paced all players with 22 assists to go along with three digs and two service aces, while sophomore middle hitter Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) recorded eight kills and hit at a .429 clip.

Freshman setter Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) narrowly missed double-digit digs with nine, while junior outside hitter Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied five digs and four kills.

The duo of Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.) combined for eight kills, five digs and two blocks. Barrett totaled five kills and two blocks, while Thomas registered five digs and four kills.

Junior libero Hannah Gasper (Bourne, Mass.) posted six digs in the victory.

The Ducks travel to Utica College for the final Empire 8 Conference Crossover on October 20 and 21 for three matches for the opportunity to host the conference post season tournament to kick off the month of November.
