NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 11, 2012) – Stevens Institute of Technology moved to 2-0 on the young 2012-13 season with a convincing 168-85 win over New York University Saturday afternoon in a men's swimming dual-meet at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

In the first event of the day, senior Greg Charriez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), freshman Byron Held (Beaverton, Ore.), senior Daniel Munt (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Shawn Hanak (North Royalton, Ohio) earned a victory in the 200-yard medley, teaming for a 1:36.72. Stevens' “B” squad took the second spot, with the “C” squad placing third.

Sophomore Wesley Elford (Phoenix, Ariz.), senior Alex Benham (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Conor Arcuri (Beaverton, Ore.) swept the top-three spots in the mile (15:56.53, 16:20.90, 17:17.51), while junior Nick Noga (Oriskany, N.Y.), freshman Tommy Wolinski (Wallington, N.J.) and senior Derek Smith (Boise Idaho) did the same in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.63, 1:47.19, 1:49.38).

Freshman Ravi Sun (Arkadelphia, Ark.), Charriez and freshman Taylor Nichols (Clifton Park, N.Y.) went one-two-three in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 51.79, 53.36 and 54.99, while Held earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a 1:00.85. Freshman Craig O'Dell (Golden, Colo.) took second with a time of 1:01.37.

Senior John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.), sophomore Price Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) and freshman Joshua Lefeber (Franklin, Wis.) swept the top three in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.91, 2:01.30, 2:03.42), and Hanak and junior Joe Huyett (Blandon, Pa.) placed second and third in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.46 and 22.04.

Hanak and Huyett did the same in the 100-yard freestyle (48.42, 48.47), while Sun, Taylor and Charriez finished first, second and second in the 200-yard backstroke. Sun tallied a 1:52.27, with Taylor and Charriez both touching at 1:59.56.

John Hu carded his second win of the day with a 2:12.59 in the 200-yard breaststroke, and he was followed by O'Dell in second (2:15.83). Benham, Elford and Arcuri finished one-two-three in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.42, 4:42.91, 4:52.21), and Sun and sophomore John G. Rees (Temecula, Calif.) finished second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, notching times of 52.82 and 53.91.

John Hu's 4:06.72 would have been good enough for a win in the 400-yard individual medley as would have the 3:11.64 Wolinski, Noga, Held and Hanak teamed to score in the 400-yard freestyle relay, but the Ducks swam the final two events in exhibition.

In total, Stevens swimmers swept the top-three places in six different swims and had the best time in 11 of the 14 events on the day.

The Ducks will return to action in their first championship style meet of the season in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. The ECAC's are slated to run from November 30 – December 2 in East Meadow, N.Y.
