Balanced Attack Leads Men's Volleyball to Sweep of Bard

Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 22, 2012) – In Canavan Arena on Wednesday evening, February 22, the nationally ranked No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept United Volleyball Conference foe, Bard College, 3-0. With the victory, the Ducks are now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the UVC.

In the three-set sweep, 25-12, 25-23, 25-20, freshman Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) paced the Ducks with 10 kills and a team-high-tying four blocks. Tyger hit .333 in the match and also recorded two digs and a service ace.

Freshman Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.), fresh off being named UVC Rookie of the Week and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Player of the Week, handed out a match-best 21 assists. Fellow freshman Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) dished out nine assists for the Ducks.

Junior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) tallied the second-most kills on the team with six and hit at a .545 clip. Hannum also served three aces and made one block. Sophmore Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) had an all around strong performance with five kills, five digs and a block.

At the net, junior James Mataras (River Vale, N.J.) and freshman Ryan Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) each turned away four kill attempts by the Raptors, while the liberos, junior Ricky Budar (Honolulu, Hawaii) and freshman Wojciech Gajda (Woodside, N.Y.) each had four digs.

The Ducks hit .296 in the match (35 kills, 14 errors and 71 attempts) and tallied 12.5 total team blocks.

Stevens is back on the court this weekend, February 25-26, when it travels to New York City for four matches over two days. The Ducks will play No. 9 Rivier College and No. 15 Emmanuel College on the 25th, and then square off against Kean University and No. 5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the 26th.
