Men's Volleyball Completes Weekend UVC Sweep

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 11, 2012) – The nationally ranked No. 8 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team completed its two-day, three match United Volleyball Conference Crossover play sweep in Rochester, N.Y. on March 11. The Ducks squared off against defending national championships and No. 7 ranked Nazareth College earlier today and came away with a four-set victory, improving to 16-3 overall this season and 9-1 in the UVC.

Stevens topped the Golden Flyers, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, for its fifth straight victory and fifth consecutive conference win.

The Ducks were led by junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) who equaled a match-high with 14 kills. Hannum had 21 attempts and hit for a .524 percentage in the win to go along with four digs.

Sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) recorded 13 kills against Nazareth and finished the two-day crossover with 46 total kills in three matches. The sophomore also added three digs in today's match.

Fellow sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) was the third Duck to eclipse double-digit kills with 11. Seifert also recorded four blocks, while junior middle hitter James Mataras (River Vale, N.J.) chipped in seven kills, seven blocks and two aces for Stevens.

At the net, junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) wrapped up his weekend with five total blocks against Nazareth and totaled 21 over the three matches.

The freshmen setters handed out a combined 44 assists in the four-set victory, with Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) leading the way, posting 27 assists and eight digs. Dylan Schlosser dished out 17 assists in the win.

Stevens will fly down to Florida for four matches on March 16 and 17 in Winter Haven and Tampa. On the 16th, the Ducks will play Pfeiffer College and Warner University at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. The following day, Stevens will take on Endicott College and Johnson & Wales University-Denver at 1 and 3 p.m. in Tampa.
