Perfect Weekend Completed by Men's Volleyball at Endicott

(March 25, 2012) – After winning both matches on Sunday, March 25 at the Endicott College Tournament, the No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team completed a perfect 4-0 weekend with victories over No. 10 Rivier College, 3-1, and Johnson & Wales University-Providence, 3-0.Stevens is now 23-5 on the season with four more regular season matches left before the United Volleyball Conference Championships on April 14 and 15.

In the Ducks' four-set opener against Rivier, 25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, Stevens recorded its second win over the Raiders this season and sixth against a ranked opponent.

The Ducks picked up their fourth win of the tournament with a sweep of JWU-Providence, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15, and at the conclusion of the tournament, junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) was named to the all-tournament team.

Hannum totaled 28 kills on the second day, to go along with 14 digs. In the four-set match against Rivier, Hannum led the Ducks with 13 kills.

Sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) and freshman outside hitter Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) both compiled 12 kills against Rivier. Evans chipped in five blocks and four digs, while Bennett hit at a .556 clip in the victory (12 kills, two errors, 18 attempts).

Freshmen setters Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) and Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) each handed out 23 assists in the four-set win. Aeckerle also made eight digs; while junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) blocked 11 total attempts by the Raiders and added five kills.

Freshman middle hitter Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) totaled 14 kills in the two wins on Sunday, recording eight against JWU-Providence.

Evans tallied a team-best 10 kills against JWU, while Modestow chipped in seven.

Aeckerle guided the Ducks offensively with 22 assists, four digs and two aces. Schlosser handed out 10 assists in the match.


Stevens will be back on the court on March 31 for a tri-match against Hunter College and SUNY IT in New York City.
