Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 27, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team improved to 12-7 on the season with a convincing 12-3 win over No. 18/21 Ramapo College on Tuesday afternoon, March 27 at Dobbelaar Field. Stevens used an eight-run fifth inning to pull away from the Roadrunners, who just cracked the top-30 in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Poll this week, and were already ranked 18th by the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Poll after a 13-2 start to their season.

The Ducks fell behind early in the game after spotting Ramapo three runs in the top of the first inning, but answered back with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After three scoreless innings by both teams, Stevens erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Four of those runs came on a grand slam blast by freshman outfielder Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) to cap off the rally. Hennelly batted 2-for-3 with a run scored before exiting the contest.

Stevens would tack on two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to put the game out of reach for Ramapo.

On the mound for the Ducks, junior Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) continued his recent success, tossing seven innings in the victory and scattering six hits. Courter surrendered all three earned runs in the first but settled down after that to keep the Roadrunners off the board and struck out four batters for his third win of the season.

After Courter left the game, senior John Martelle (Colonia, N.J.) struck out one and walked a batter in an inning of work, while freshman Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) surrendered a hit and struck out two in the ninth inning.

Nine different Ducks recorded a hit in the victory, including three from freshman infielder Marc Calleo (Bayville, N.Y.), who batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. Senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) scored twice, drove in a run and walked as part of a 2-for-5 day at the plate.

Sophomores Michael Donovan (Mendham, N.J.), an infielder, and catcher Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) each went 2-for-5 in the win. Donovan scored two runs, while Lowenstein crossed the plate once.

Senior designated hitter TJ Alcorn (Turnersville, N.J.) also recorded two in four at bats with an RBI, run scored, hit by pitch and stolen base, while graduate student infielder Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) drove in two runs and scored another in three at bats with a sacrifice fly.

Three other Ducks picked up hits in the contest. Sophomore outfielders Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Shane Raymond (Easton, Pa.) both drove in runs, as Allen doubled in two and Raymond singled in one. Allen also stole a base and reached on a hit by pitch.

Senior outfielder Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.) also recorded a hit, was hit by a pitch and stolen base with a run scored in four trips to the plate.

The Ducks outhit Ramapo, 16-7, and induced two double play groundballs to end two scoring threats by the Roadrunners. Stevens is now 10-0 at home this season.

Stevens will be back on the diamond for a 7 p.m. single game against Farmingdale State College on March 29. The Ducks already fell to Farmingdale earlier this season, 4-3, in extra innings.
