MORRISTOWN, N.J. (March 31, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened Empire 8 play on Saturday with a emphatic 8-1 win over the visiting St. John Fisher Cardinals. Sophomore Andrew Riggs (Auburn, Calif.) swept his third singles match 6-0, 6-0 after teaming with Nicholas Rosasco (Alpine, N.J.) to win 8-4 at second doubles.
The Ducks had even less trouble at first doubles, where Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) took care of business 8-1. The junior classmates also won their matches at first and second singles, respectively. The scores in both cases were 6-3, 6-1.
Rosasco handily won his fourth singles match 6-1, 6-0 and Daniel Szwarc (Metuchen, N.J.) won at fives 6-4, 7-6 (3).
Rounding out the Duck victories was the third doubles pair of Szwarc and Derek Smith (Boise, Idaho), who were victorious by an 8-6 margin.
The team's match on Sunday against Alfred – originally scheduled for a noon start – has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. in an attempt to stay ahead of the rain forecast for the Hoboken area. As always, updates and full results of that match will be available at StevensDucks.com.
