Men's Volleyball Advances to UVC Championship to Play Nazareth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW YORK, N.Y.  (April 14, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team, ranked fifth nationally, topped No. 7 seed SUNY New Paltz in four sets during the quarter final match at the United Volleyball Conference Championships on April 14 at New York University. Stevens entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the championship match after beating Medaille College, 3-1, in the semifinal match on Saturday night.

Top-seeded NYU lost its first round match to No. 8 Penn State Behrend in the lone upset of the first day.

In the four-set victory over Medaille to propel Stevens to the championship match, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 27-25, UVC Player of the Year sophomore outside David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) and honorable selection sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) each recorded 15 kills in the win. Evans hit for a .324 percentage and added six digs and three blocks, while Seifert hit at an impressive .650 clip and had two blocks.

Junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) tallied 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs. Fellow junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) chipped in seven kills, four blocks and service aces, while freshman middle hitter Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) also tallied seven kills with three blocks.

Honorable Mention UVC selection freshman Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) paced the Ducks with 32 assists, and fellow freshman Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) handed out 29 assists and registered eight digs.

As a team, Stevens hit .353, recorded 40 digs and made nine-and-a-half blocks at the net.
