Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 15, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team attempted to mount a late-inning comeback against St. John Fisher College at Dobbelaar Field on April 15, but the Ducks came up one run short and lost a 3-2 decision. The Ducks trailed, 3-0, through six innings but scored a run in the seventh and eighth frames. Stevens is now 18-12 overall this season and 4-5 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) and sophomore outfielder Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led Stevens offensively with two hits apiece. Phillips batted 2-for-5 with a run batted in and just missed smacking a three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the ballgame. Instead, his long single caromed off the top of the right field fence and only one run came into score. Phillips also stole a base to move into a tie atop the all-time stolen bases record book with 74 career swipes. Allen walked and scored in three trips to the plate.

Junior infielder Michael Donovan (Mendham, N.J.) drove in the other Stevens run with a single in the eighth, bringing in Allen. Senior outfielder Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk, stolen base and run scored on the Phillips base hit.

On the mound for the Ducks, junior Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) suffered his first loss of the season in seven innings of work. Courter gave up nine hits and three earned runs while striking out five batters and walking two. Fellow junior Kevin Mathews (Jackson, N.J.) relieved Courter and allowed three hits.

Stevens will be back on the diamond on April 21-22 for three games against Utica College in Hoboken. One game will be played at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st, while the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on the 22nd.
