Nazareth Tops Men's Volleyball in Five Sets at UVC Final

Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. (April 15, 2012) – In the United Volleyball Conference championship match, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's team lost to Nazareth College in five sets at New York University's Coles Sports Center on Sunday afternoon. Stevens is now 27-8 overall and has one more match remaining on its schedule on April 18. The Ducks will find out tonight at 8:30 p.m. if they earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship on April 27-29. Visit ncaa.com to watch the live selection show.

Stevens fell in the five-set heartbreaker, 25-20, 25-27, 14-25, 25-21, 15-9, after holding a 2-1 match advantage heading into the fourth set. After Nazareth forced a fifth and final set, the Golden Flyers used their momentum to build an 8-4 lead and forced Stevens to burn a timeout in the final game to 15. Naz held its lead up to 12-8, and after another Ducks' timeout, outscored Stevens, 3-1, to end the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) was the lone Duck to eclipse double-digit kills with 13. Seifert also recorded five total blocks and hit an even .500 in the match.
The freshmen tandem of setters Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.), the tandem combined for 42 assists. Schlosser paced the Ducks with 23, while Aeckerle chipped in 19.

Four other Ducks registered seven kills in the loss. Freshman middle hitter Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.), freshman opposite hitter Ian Tyger (York, Pa.), junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) all posted seven kills. Bennett also added five service aces and two kills, while Evans picked up six digs.

Junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) tallied seven blocks and six kills, while senior libero Wojciech Gajda (Woodside, N.Y.) led Stevens with 12 digs.

As a team, Stevens totaled 11.5 blocks but only hit .154 on the offensive side of the net.

The Ducks will take on Baruch College on April 18 at 6 p.m. in Canavan Arena for their season finale.
