Box Score BRONX, N.Y. (April 24, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team scored seven runs in the third inning and nine runs in the seventh to run away with a 19-2 victory over Lehman College in the Bronx on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Ducks are now 20-13 overall which marks the sixth time in the past eight seasons the team has eclipsed 20-plus victories in a season.

Stevens led off the game with two runs in the top of the inning after loading the bases on walks to the first four batters of the game. Senior outfielder Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.) stepped to the plate to drive in both senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) and sophomore outfielder Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.).

Phillips stole two of his four bases in the inning before crossing the plate and also scored four runs and smacked a homerun, while Allen swiped a bag in the first inning as well. The Ducks as a team stole 11 bases in the ball game.

Lehman tied the contest up in its first at bats off junior Kevin Mathews (Jackson, N.J.) who picked up the win in five inning of work. Matthews gave up four hits in the first inning but would only surrender two more for the rest of his outing and strike out five batters to earn his sixth win of the season.

In the third inning, Stevens capitalized on four Lightning errors and hits from sophomore catcher Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), graduate student infielder Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore outfielder Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) to bring in all seven runs.

Glassman came up to bat with the bases loaded in the seventh and smacked a grand slam for four of his five RBI in the game and  fourth homerun of the season to cap off the 19 runs scored by Stevens in the contest.

Four freshmen each recorded a scoreless inning in relief appearances with four combined strike outs. Pierce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) was first out of the bullpen and walked one batter in the sixth, while John Howarth (Fanwood, N.J.) and Daniel Frischman (Short Hills, N.J.) tossed hitless innings of relief in the seventh and eighth. Ryan Mannello (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave up three hits in the ninth but used a double play to close out the victory.

The Ducks will travel to Ithaca College for three games this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Stevens and the Bombers will play a doubleheader on the 28th starting at 1 p.m. and then wrap up the series with a nine-inning affair on the 29th with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
