Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 2, 2012) – The eight seniors on the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team all chipped in contributions in a 14-2 home victory over SUNY Old Westbury on Senior Night at Dobbelaar Field on Wednesday evening. With the win, Stevens is now 21-16 overall and has won five games over regionally ranked teams this season. The Ducks wrap up their regular season schedule at St. John Fisher College this weekend.

Stevens trailed, 2-0, after the top of the first inning to the Panthers but runs in each of the first at bats for the Ducks erased Westbury's lead and never looked back to cement the convincing victory. The Panthers entered the game as the top base stealing team in the nation with 235 swipes and stole four bags in the first three innings, but a lack of base runners neutralized what Westbury does best.

Graduated student Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) drove in the first run of the game on a solo homerun to right field in the bottom of the first. Glassman then stroked his second round tripper of the contest in the bottom of the third for the game-winning hit in a 2-for-5 night at the plate.

Senior Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) also went deep for Stevens in five trips to the dish with two RBI, while fellow senior TJ Alcorn (Turnersville, N.J.) smacked a three-run shot for one of the six long balls in the game. Alcorn batted 2-for-5 and recorded 10 putouts in the field.

The final senior hitter, Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.), drove in two runs with a team-high three hits, including a double. Kiczek also swiped a bag and scored once in four at bats.

Juniors Michael Donovan (Mendham, N.J.) and Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) belted the other two homeruns for the Ducks and combined to drive in four runs. Donovan cracked a two-run shot in the sixth inning and then drove in another run on a single in the seventh inning. Courter hit a solo homer in the second inning and scored in the six-run sixth after reaching on a base hit.

Sophomores Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) combined to score four runs with three walks. Allen went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and stolen base, while Lowenstein reached twice on walks and crossed the plate two times with a stolen bag.

On the mound, junior Kevin Mathews (Jackson, N.J.) struggled through the first inning, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, but surrendered just three hits over the next five innings to earn his team-leading seventh win of the season. Mathews struck out four batters and walked just two.

The four senior pitchers combined the throw the final three innings and gave up just two hits with three punch outs. Chris Tucci (Calverton, N.Y.) and Vincent Vinci (Howell, N.J.) each tossed two-thirds of hitless relief innings with a strike out. Jeffrey Hart (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) fanned one in his inning of work, while John Martelle (Colonia, N.J.) allowed two hits in the final two-thirds with one strike out.

Stevens will travel up to St. John Fisher for a single game on Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. The two teams finish up the series with a doubleheader on the 6th, starting at 10 a.m.
