MUHLENBERG, Pa. (September 19, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team topped Muhlenberg College 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon in the Keystone State. Sophomore Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) again led the Ducks, taking first singles 6-1, 6-0 after pairing with junior captain Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) for an 8-2 first doubles triumph.
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.) also won in straight sets at singles to seal the win for the Ducks. Handel was tested 7-5 in the opening set but responded with a decisive 6-0 win in the second.
Freshman Nathalie Tran (South Plainfield, N.J.) won the most exciting individual match of the afternoon at sixth singles. After falling 3-6 in the first set, the freshman rallied to win the second 6-4 and took the tiebreak by a 10-4 margin.
Tran and Handel also won a tight doubles match at threes in an 8-6 set. The other two doubles matchups were solid Duck victories as the visitors took the match 7-2.
