Men’s Volleyball Notches First Win of Season in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (January 14, 2013) – The nationally ranked No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2013 season in a five-set affair against the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras over the weekend in Puerto Rico. Stevens has played two teams from outside of the United States thus far to kick off its schedule.

In the five-set triumph over Division II Rio Piedras, junior Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) led all players with 17 kills and four service aces. Seifert also chipped in five digs and two blocks for the Ducks.

Senior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) also tallied double-digit kills with 14 and 11, respectively. Hannum hit at a .400 clip, while Tyger finished with a .500 hitting percentage. Hannum finished up his performance with nine digs and four aces.

The sophomore setters, Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) and Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) combined for 51 assists in the victory. Aeckerle dished out 29 to go along with seven digs, while Schlosser recorded 22 more.

Senior Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) posted the highest hitting percentage of the match at .700 with eight kills in 10 attempts. Modestow also tallied four total blocks.

As a team, the Ducks hit .377 and registered 11 aces.

Stevens will be back in action against Division I Harvard University at 7 p.m. on January 18 in Walker Gymnasium.
