Harvard Bests Men’s Volleyball in Three Sets

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 18, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team, ranked fifth nationally in the AVCA Top 15 poll, was swept by Division I Harvard University on Friday evening in Walker Gymnasium. With the loss, Stevens is now 1-2 on the season and has yet to play a DIII opponent.

In the straight sets loss, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20, junior Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) paced the Ducks with 11 kills and was the lone player for Stevens to eclipse double-digits in that category. Seifert also added four digs and two blocks.

Sophomore Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out a team-high 20 assists to go along with three digs, while junior David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) led Stevens with seven digs.

Senior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) each tallied five kills apiece. Fellow senior and sophomore, Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) and Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) both posted four kills in the loss.

Stevens will be back on the court against No. 11 Vassar College for the first United Volleyball Conference match of the season in Canavan Arena on January 30. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
