HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 8, 2013) – The nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team will host a marquee matchup Wednesday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex, welcoming in perennial power and 14th-ranked Swarthmore College to Hoboken for a 7:30 p.m. kick.
All proceeds from the night will go directly to the
Wounded Warrior Project and its causes.
Stevens comes into the matchup ranked eighth nationally in the D3Soccer.com poll, and No. 11 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Ducks are 8-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Empire 8, and following its only loss of the season, Stevens has ran off three-straight wins, outscoring the opposition by a 10-1 tally. Overall the Ducks are one of the top scoring team's in the nation (14th), while allowing a stingy .50 goals-against average in 10 contests. The Ducks are a plus-27 in scoring and have put 55-more shots on net over the course of the 2013 season.
Stevens has pitched five shutouts this year and has an extremely balanced offensive attack with 12 players netting goals, five of which have scored three or more.
Swarthmore – ranked 14th in the NSCAA poll this week – has yet to lose a match this season and will come to the De Baun Athletic Complex with a 6-0-4 mark (2-0-1 on the road). As a team, the Garnet have scored 22 times in 10 matches, allowing nine tallies against. They are plus-53 in shots on goal and average almost 12 more attempts per outing than their opponents.
Stevens and Swarthmore have done battle four of the last five years with each team notching a pair of wins. Swarthmore ended Stevens' historic 62-match home unbeaten streak back in 2008, and in 2009, won on its home turf. After not playing during the 2010 campaign, Stevens earned wins each of the next two years, including a 2-1 overtime road decision on September 19, 2012.
Stevens will be hosting a pre-game tailgate and will be giving away limited edition t-shirts (while supplies last) prior to the match at the North and South entrances to the De Baun Athletic Complex. The Ducks will be donning alternate green jerseys in honor of the Wounded Warrior Project and there will be a special halftime contest sponsored by the Stevens Frisbee team.

General admission to the event is $5 with all Stevens students, staff and faculty receiving free admission (Stevens men's soccer and Stevens Athletics hopes everyone in attendance is able to make some form of donation to the cause.). All proceeds from gate revenue and donations will be given directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.
