NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 7, 2013) – For the first time in program history, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team defeated cross-river rival New York University. The Ducks earned a 14-13 win Wednesday night in Manhattan.

Stevens earned 5-4 tallies in foil and epee, falling 5-4 in sabre as the Ducks (1-0) did enough to get the big, early-season victory over the Violets.

Sophomore Logan Koester went 3-0 in epee to lead that unit, while freshman Michael Szczesniak did the same in sabre to lead that group. Senior captain Anthony Worthington went 2-1 in foil, as did junior Jorge Rojas.

Freshman Stephen Rienzi, freshman Kirk Visser, sophomore Daniel Tracey and junior Marco Egizi all earned a single victory for the Ducks.

Stevens will return to action at the Vassar Invitational Sunday, November 10.
