MADISON, N.J. (February 17, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team earned a trio of wins and went 3-1 overall Sunday in Madison, N.J. to improve to 15-11 on the season. The Ducks have now won seven of their last eight matches.
Stevens started with a 20-7 win over the University of Maryland, and despite an excellent performance, came up on the short end of a 14-13 score to Johns Hopkins University. The Ducks finished strong with a 23-4 win over William & Mary and a 22-6 decision against the University of Virginia.
Leading the foil squad was senior
Anthony Worthington (Falmouth, Mass.) who went 10-1, sophomore
Jorge Rojas (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) who was 9-2 and freshman
Daniel Tracey (Livingston, N.J.) who tallied an overall mark of 8-2.
Junior
Danny Burke (Bedminster, N.J.) and senior
Billy Danhauser (Fairfield, Conn.) were both 9-1 to lead the epee squad, while sabre was led by sophomore
Marco Egizi (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman
Daniel Cleary (Lincoln Park, N.J.). Egizi went 9-3 and Cleary was 7-4
The Ducks will return to action March 3 when they take part in the MACFA Championships.
