ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (February 20, 2013) – The nationally ranked No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team improved to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the United Volleyball Conference with a 3-0 victory over Bard College on Wednesday night. Stevens hit .529 in the match and only committed seven errors overall.
In the sweep, 25-9, 25-15, 25-15, the Ducks registered 19 block assists for a total of 9.5 in the match. Senior
James Mataras (River Vale, N.J.) led the way with four, while sophomore
Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) and freshman
John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) had three blocks each.
Tyger was the lone player in the match to reach double-digit kills with 10 and also added six digs to tie a team-high. Eddins also tallied six digs to go along with three kills in as many attempts and dished out a match-high 33 assists.
Freshman
Ayal Ciobotaru (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) was the third Duck to reach six digs.
Fellow freshman
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) played two sets and compiled six kills in 11 attempts, while senior
Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) put down five kills and a perfect hitting percentage.
Senior
Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and junior
David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) each added four kills and a service ace in one set. Hannum hit at a .800 clip with four digs, while Evans hit .571.
Four other Ducks contributed three kills in the sweep. Ten of the 12 players to see the court hit over .316. Bard was held to a negative hitting percentage in the match (-.014).
Stevens will be in New York City this weekend for four matches at the Baruch College Tournament on February 23 and 24. The Ducks will square off against Rivier University, MIT, Kean University and Emmanuel College over the two days.
