NEW YORK CITY (February 24, 2013) – The nationally ranked No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated Kean University and Emmanuel College on the final day of the Baruch College Invitational in New York City on Sunday. Stevens took down both opponents by 3-1 set scores to improve to 14-4 on the season.
In the victory over Kean, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, junior
David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) paced all players with 18 kills in 32 attempts for a .438 hitting percentage. Evans also recorded five digs, two assists and a service ace.
Senior
Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore
Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) each tallied 11 kills for the Ducks and combined for 13 digs. Sophomore setters
Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) and
Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) 24 and 21 assists a piece in split action. For the weekend, Aeckerle was named to the first-team all-tournament team.
Sophomore
Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in a solid match with six kills in 10 tries, three aces and three blocks. Freshman
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) led Stevens with eight digs.
Complete results from the Emmanuel match are not available at this time, but Stevens prevailed in set scores of 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, 25-16.
The Ducks will travel to SUNYIT for a United Volleyball Conference match on February 27 at 6 p.m.
