BRONX, N.Y. (February 28, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team is set to host Randolph-Macon College in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday at Lehman College in the Bronx. Tip-off from the APEX is set for 2 p.m. with all the action being webcast live at www.Empire8.TV.
 
Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets at a glance:
Randolph-Macon (19-9, 11-5 ODAC) enters the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship winners of six-straight games and 11 of their last 12. The Yellow Jackets earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's automatic bid after knocking off second seeded Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC Tournament semi-finals before upending top seeded Virginia Wesleyan 75-64 in the Championship Game.

R-MC battled through a grueling schedule that included seven games against teams currently ranked in the Top 25 and 11 games against teams playing in the tournament. Randolph-Macon knocked off three of the top-eight teams in the South Region in a nine day stretch which culminated with a win over the region's top two teams Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan for the ODAC crown.

The Yellow Jackets are led offensively by junior forward Andre Simon who averages 11.9 points on 52.7% shooting and 7.1 rebounds per game. Senior forward Lamar Giggetts adds 11.8 points per game and 4.9 boards a contest. Connor Sullivan has also averaged double digit points in his sophomore season with 10.7 points and a team high 43 three pointers.

For the first time in program history, Randolph-Macon received their fourth consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Jackets have posted a 5-3 record in their previous three trips including a run to the Final Four in the 2009-2010 season.

Stevens comes into the NCAA Tournament with an overall mark of 22-5 after reaching the final of the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Championship last Saturday in Hoboken. The Ducks won the program's first-ever Empire 8 regular-season crown, compiling a conference ledger of 11-3.
 
The 20-plus win season is the third in three years for the Ducks and the 22 victories are the second-most in the program's 98-year history. The trip to the tournament is the second ever for Stevens as the Ducks reached the “Sweet 16” back in the 2006-07 season and are 2-1 all-time in tourney games.
 
Stevens had a pair of seven-game winning streaks this year as well as one eight-game win-streak and boast wins over three NCAA Tournament teams in Rutgers – Newark, Ithaca College and Williams College. In the final publically released East Region ranks, the Ducks were at No. 3 behind the University of Rochester and SUNY Cortland.
 
Senior guard Sheldon Jones (Queens, N.Y.) leads Stevens, becoming the first Duck to earn Empire 8 Player of the Year honors and pocketing all-conference distinction for the third time in his career. The junior averages 17.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Russ Thompson (West Orange, N.J.) earned first-team All-Empire 8 honors and averages 14.4 points per game. Thompson was second in the conference in three-point shooting and became the program's leader in made three-point field goals last weekend. Sophomore forward Patrick Sabatino (Westfield, N.J.) earned second-team all-conference distinction, posting 13.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while junior guard Matt Skrelja (Clark, N.J.) led the Ducks in steals while also averaging 7.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Skrelja was named to the E8 All-Tournament team Saturday. Sophomore forward Kenny Gan (Hillsborough, N.J.) was second in the conference in blocked shots, while also averaging 6.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per outing.
 
The Ducks are ranked seventh nationally in blocked shots and No. 18 in field-goal percentage defense. Stevens checks in at No. 25 in won-lost percentage, 28th in three-point field-goal percentage defense and 50th in field goal percentage.
 
Tickets:
General admission is $6. Students and seniors are $3 and children are $2 (under two years of age are free). Per NCAA rule there are absolutely no guest lists for games.

NOTE: Stevens students/faculty/staff with valid ID are free to the game as the institution will reimburse the NCAA.
 
Parking and Transportation:
Street parking is available around the APEX and Lehman College as well as pay parking ($5) in a lot adjacent to the APEX. Fans are also encouraged to use New York City mass transit - take the No. 4 Subway to the Bedford Park – Lehman College stop and walk 1.5 blocks to the APEX.

Please note the APEX is located on the north end of the campus on Bedford Park Boulevard West.
