HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 29, 2013) – In the first 2013 NCAA Regional Rankings for Division III men's volleyball, Stevens Institute of Technology ranked third in the West Region with a 22-5 overall record and 19-3 in-region. Stevens is currently fifth in the nation according to the latest AVCA Top 15 poll.
Although their actual overall record is 22-6, the season-opening loss to the University of Waterloo for the Ducks does not count based off of NCAA guidelines. Waterloo is a Canadian college based out of Waterloo, Ontario.
Stevens sits behind Carthage College and Nazareth College in the west. Carthage, the nation's No. 3 team holds the top spot with a 15-1 in-region mark and 21-6 overall. Nazareth, ranked No. 1 in the country but second in the region, is undefeated through 27 matches this season and will host the United Volleyball Conference Championship on April 13-14.
The Ducks have played seven of the 12 regionally ranked teams from the East and West with two more still to go in No. 2 Springfield College and No. 8 Baruch College. Stevens takes on the defending national championships on April 3 in Canavan Arena at 6 p.m. for Senior Night and travels to Baruch for a tri-match on April 6.
In the seven matches against regionally ranked opponents this season, Stevens is 4-3. The Ducks have defeated SUNY New Paltz (No. 6 West), Emmanuel College (fifth in the East), Kean University (No. 6 East) and Rivier University (third in the East), but fell to Nazareth, Juniata College (No. 5 West) and MIT (No. 4 East).
Stevens has three matches remaining in the regular season before heading to Rochester, N.Y. for the UVC Championship and a chance for an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
